Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi tasks new Islamabad IG with combatting crime

Federal Minister for Interior, Mohsin Naqvi, issued directives to the newly appointed Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Saturday, emphasizing the imperative to enhance law and order and launch a vigorous crackdown against criminal elements operating within the capital.

During a high-level meeting, Naqvi charged police authorities with the responsibility of executing a robust crackdown against drug trafficking networks and apprehending members of the drug mafia, leveraging modern technological resources. Highlighting the pernicious impact of drug peddling on Pakistan’s future, Naqvi underscored the necessity for stringent punitive measures against offenders, advocating for heightened surveillance around educational institutions to curb the illicit sale of narcotics, including methamphetamine, and to apprehend perpetrators.

IGP Islamabad, Ali Nasir Rizvi, provided a comprehensive briefing to the interior minister on the prevailing law and order situation, attended by all Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) and Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs). Naqvi stressed the paramount importance of ensuring the safety and security of foreign nationals residing in Islamabad, mandating the establishment of a dedicated protection force for their safeguarding, particularly around key diplomatic and governmental installations within the city.

Furthermore, Naqvi issued directives for a proactive campaign against the beggar mafia and professional beggars operating in Islamabad, admonishing laxity in FIR registration and instructing expedited processing of promotion cases within the capital police force. He reiterated the government’s commitment to elevating the standards of Islamabad police stations and advocated for equitable compensation and timely promotions to bolster morale among law enforcement personnel.

Additionally, Naqvi urged the formulation of a comprehensive traffic management plan to address congestion hotspots and enhance the efficiency of the Islamabad Safe City system, aligning it with the sophisticated infrastructure of Lahore Safe City.
