Iran ready to honor deal if US keeps its commitments, says Iranian President Pezeshkian

BISHKEK: Iran is signaling that the door to diplomacy with the United States is still open — but only if Washington is prepared to return to its commitments under an interim agreement reached in June.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran would be ready to implement the terms of the agreement if the United States fulfills its own obligations. His remarks came during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, according to Iranian state media.

Pezeshkian said Iran would respond immediately if Washington returned to the commitments it had made under the June interim arrangement.

The statement comes at a particularly sensitive moment in US-Iran relations, with tensions rising following recent military actions and retaliatory attacks involving the two countries.

Tehran Puts Ball in Washington’s Court

Pezeshkian’s comments underline Tehran’s long-standing position that any diplomatic process must be based on mutual commitments rather than unilateral concessions.

Iran has repeatedly argued that trust between the two sides can only be rebuilt if Washington honors promises already made. Tehran says it remains prepared to fulfill its own commitments if the United States does the same.
