Iran says US pressure will fail, warns of wider war

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tuesday that the United States cannot achieve its goals through economic pressure on Tehran, days after Washington imposed a new wave of sanctions on Iran.

Speaking during a three-hour meeting with senior economic officials and economists at the Central Bank of Iran, Pezeshkian called for measures to protect economic stability and control inflation amid what he described as war, an economic blockade and external pressure.

He stressed the need for close coordination among the government, central bank and other economic institutions to manage currency and financial markets.

“Our approach is understanding and resolving issues through interaction and negotiation,” Pezeshkian said, adding that Iran would continue to resist US economic pressure.

He also claimed that the US failed to achieve its objectives during the recent war because of resistance from Iran’s armed forces and support from the Iranian public.

Meanwhile, Iranian army spokesman Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia warned Wednesday that any future conflict with the US could expand across the region and target energy and communications infrastructure.

Speaking to Mehr News Agency, Akraminia said Iran had previously warned that any “miscalculation” by its adversaries would trigger an immediate response and could widen the conflict.

He pointed to the Bab al-Mandab Strait and a US military base in Syria, saying both had become linked to the conflict despite previously remaining outside its geographical scope.

Akraminia warned that a future war could open new fronts and threaten energy and communications infrastructure across the region, while insisting that Iran has the capability to confront such threats.
