Iran vows decisive response to any threat as tensions rise

TEHRAN: Iran’s armed forces have warned that any miscalculation or emerging threat from its adversaries will be met with a powerful and decisive response, as Tehran continues to emphasise the expansion of its domestic defence capabilities.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Ali Abdollahi, said recent achievements by Iran’s Defence Ministry represented far more than the production of military equipment, describing them as part of a broader transformation of the country’s defence industry.

In remarks carried by Iranian state media, Abdollahi said Iran’s armed forces were prepared to respond forcefully to any threat or hostile action. He described the country’s recent defence developments as evidence of growing national capabilities and greater self-reliance in the military sector.

“Any miscalculation or emerging threat by the enemy will receive a decisive, powerful and effective response,” Abdollahi said, according to the statement.

The warning comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States and broader instability across the Middle East. Tehran has repeatedly accused Washington and its allies of pursuing policies aimed at weakening Iran, while US officials have maintained pressure on Iran over its regional activities and military capabilities.

Abdollahi had previously issued a similarly strong warning to Washington, saying the Iranian armed forces would deliver a “decisive and destructive” response to any aggression or hostile action against the country.

In his latest remarks, the senior commander also stressed the importance of maintaining unity between Iran’s armed forces, the public and state institutions. He said stronger coordination among these groups would be essential to confronting future challenges.

According to Iranian state media, Abdollahi further warned that Iran could impose a heavier cost on the United States in any future conflict than it had experienced in previous wars.

His comments reflect Tehran’s long-standing strategy of portraying military preparedness and domestic defence production as key elements of national security. Iran has invested heavily in developing indigenous missiles, drones, air-defence systems and other military technologies, particularly amid years of international sanctions restricting access to foreign defence equipment.

The emphasis on domestic production has also become a central theme in official Iranian statements, with military leaders frequently presenting defence-sector advances as evidence of technological independence.

At the same time, analysts say strong rhetoric from both sides carries risks at a time when regional tensions remain high. Any miscalculation could potentially trigger a wider confrontation involving Iran, the United States and regional allies.

For now, Abdollahi’s latest warning sends a clear message from Tehran: Iran says it intends to strengthen its military preparedness and will respond forcefully if it believes its security is directly threatened.
