TEHRAN: Iran has vowed to continue fighting the United States until Washington accepts its demands, with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf saying Tehran wants neither an endless war nor prolonged negotiations.
According to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, Ghalibaf made the remarks in a televised address, stressing that Iran was willing to negotiate to establish lasting defensive deterrence but would continue the fight until its demands were met.
In a separate statement on social media, Ghalibaf said all deadlines set by the US government had passed, including those linked to its campaign of economic pressure against Iran. Despite these measures, he said, the Islamic Republic remained intact and continued to function.
Ghalibaf also made a sarcastic remark about US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, suggesting that he deserved the Nobel Prize in Physics. He criticised Bessent’s predictions about the consequences of American pressure on Iran, arguing that developments had undermined those forecasts.
Meanwhile, Iranian Revolutionary Guard spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi said Iran had acquired more advanced weapons following the 40-day war.
Mohebbi described the prospect of fresh US strikes against Iran as unreasonable but warned that the possibility remained. He claimed that US President Donald Trump needed a political or military success ahead of the midterm elections, which could increase the risk of another attack.
The statements signal Tehran’s continued defiance of Washington while leaving open the possibility of negotiations, provided they address Iran’s demands and security concerns.
