MULTAN : A deadly clash between two groups of students outside the main gate of MUST University near Nag Shah Chowk, Muzaffargarh Road, left one youth dead and two others seriously injured on Friday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Anas Malik, son of Muhammad Ramzan, a resident of Hamid Pur. The two injured individuals are Muhammad Waris Khokhar (20), who sustained a critical head injury, and Ali Akbar (19), a law student who suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Both injured victims are residents of Muzaffarabad, Multan.
According to police sources, the violence stemmed from a verbal dispute that erupted earlier in the day between the victims and Rana Umar Saghir (22), a Cyber Security student at MUST University and resident of Kot Addu. Although the Head of the IT Department, Dr. Ismail, intervened inside the campus to reconcile the opposing sides, hostility persisted.
At approximately 4:00 PM, Rana Umar allegedly returned to the university’s main entrance accompanied by an armed mob of 10 to 15 associates to confront the rival group. The confrontation quickly turned violent, during which Rana Umar and his accomplices reportedly opened indiscriminate fire on Anas Malik and his companions.
Rescue 1122 teams shifted all three critically wounded youths to Nishtar Hospital Multan for emergency medical care. Anas Malik succumbed to his injuries shortly after reaching the hospital, while Waris Khokhar and Ali Akbar remain under medical treatment.
Following the shooting, heavy contingents of police, including the Station House Officers (SHOs) of PS Muzaffarabad and PS Qutab Pur, cordoned off the area.
Muzaffargarh Road was temporarily blocked due to the unrest as law enforcement secured the crime scene, collected forensic evidence, and initiated a search operation to arrest the suspects.
