Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said the party will announce the next phase of its campaign over petroleum prices and the petroleum levy after October 7.
Speaking to the media, Hafiz Naeem criticised the government’s petrol relief package, saying it was introduced under public pressure and should not be presented as a favour to consumers.
He said millions of motorcyclists in the country would not benefit from the relief scheme, arguing that the package did not provide relief to all those affected by high fuel prices.
According to Hafiz Naeem, the permanent solution to the petroleum price issue is the abolition of the petroleum levy. He questioned why political parties and other stakeholders remained silent over the levy and rising fuel costs.
He also rejected the idea of creating a separate system for wealthy consumers, saying such an approach would not resolve the broader issue.
The JI chief said his party would announce its next course of action after October 7, keeping the petroleum levy and fuel prices at the centre of its campaign.
Commenting on the situation in Palestine, Hafiz Naeem said the JI would continue raising its voice for Palestinians.
He alleged that Palestinians were facing severe violence and accused the United States of facilitating Israel’s actions. He said Palestinians were making sacrifices for the wider Muslim community and reiterated that his party stood with those facing oppression rather than those responsible for it.
