Late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel mocked US President Donald Trump after Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, joking that a political “Red Wedding” was beginning.
In his post-election monologue, Kimmel celebrated the Democratic victories and poked fun at Trump’s reaction to the results.
“What we do know for sure is that Democrats have officially taken the House. Thanks to President Trump. Blob Vila flipped another House!” Kimmel said.
“The blue wave made landfall, and now the Red Wedding begins,” he added, referring to the infamous massacre in the television series Game of Thrones.
Kimmel also joked that Trump had spent election day watching Fox News coverage in an attempt to “stir up an insurrection for himself”.
“Word from inside the White House is he’s already run out of dipping sauce containers to throw at the television set,” Kimmel said.
“Man, oh man, would I hate to be the DoorDash driver who delivers Trump his Papa John’s tonight?” he added.
Trump, meanwhile, said he was willing to accept the election results and work with Democrats, telling The New York Times: “I am absolutely willing to accept those results.”
“We’ll work with the Democrats, and we’ll, you know, look forward to working with them. We’ll probably work something out,” he said.
