In a 10-minute speech at a Maryland casino, Biden mocked Trump’s “vanity projects” in Washington, D.C., and accused his administration of “brazen, blatant corruption” .
“It’s not just his vanity projects, tearing down the East Wing of the White House making room for his ballroom, putting his name on the Kennedy Center, building an arch in his own honor, even hiring his own pool guy to fix the reflecting pool,” Biden said, drawing a sharp reaction from the crowd. “Woah! What a loser,” he exclaimed .
“The reflecting pool reflects something even worse than the narcissism and incompetence at the core of this administration,” Biden continued. “It’s the corruption, the corruption, the brazen, blatant corruption. Corruption on a scale never seen before in American history in any administration” .
Biden also criticized Trump’s reported support for compensating individuals convicted for their roles in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. “What makes me angry is that Trump wants to give taxpayers’ money, your money, to the January 6th insurrectionists,” Biden said. “These people don’t deserve to be compensated. They deserve to be put in jail for a long, long, long time” . His comments come as the Trump administration has faced bipartisan backlash over a proposed $1.8 billion fund that critics, including some Republicans, have labelled a “MAGA slush fund” to reward those involved in the attack .
The speech, which marked the two-year anniversary of the Biden-Trump debate that ultimately derailed Biden’s re-election campaign, signals the former president’s intent to remain an active voice in Democratic politics as the party looks ahead to the midterm elections .
