Judicial commission begins probe into Mir Raza murder

The judicial commission formed to investigate the murder of Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali has formally started its proceedings, with notices issued to key parties in the case.

The commission has summoned Mir Raza Ali’s family members and their lawyer, Jibran Nasir, for August 28. It has also issued a notice to the Sindh government’s focal person, directing the concerned parties to appear before the commission and assist with the investigation.

The Sindh High Court constituted the commission earlier this week to ensure a transparent and independent inquiry into Mir Raza Ali’s killing. Sindh High Court Chief Justice nominated Justice Umar Sial to head the judicial commission.

Mir Raza Ali was found dead in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar area on July 29. Police recovered his body after unidentified assailants allegedly shot him dead. Police teams initially handled the investigation and began probing the circumstances surrounding the killing.

However, the Sindh government later directed authorities to establish a judicial commission to examine the case and ensure that the investigation proceeds in a transparent manner.

The commission is now expected to hear statements from the victim’s family, their legal representative and government officials as it examines the circumstances of the murder and the progress made in the initial police investigation.

The proceedings could help determine whether the existing investigation adequately addresses the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death and identify any gaps that require further inquiry.
