The establishment of the Judicial Committee within the Punjab Assembly has been challenged before the Lahore High Court (LHC), with the petitioner arguing that the committee is unlawfully exercising judicial powers and acting beyond its constitutional mandate.

The constitutional petition was filed by Sana Afzal Malik through her counsel, Nadeem Sarwar Advocate. The petition names the Secretary Punjab Assembly, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, the Punjab Assembly’s Judicial Committee, and other relevant authorities as respondents.

According to the petition, the Judicial Committee has exceeded its jurisdiction by performing functions that, under the Constitution, fall exclusively within the domain of the judiciary. It contends that the committee’s proceedings are inconsistent with constitutional and legal limits and therefore cannot be sustained in law.

The petitioner further submits that the committee’s reported directions to Members of the Punjab Assembly regarding the issuance of diplomatic passports are unlawful. The petition argues that neither the Judicial Committee nor the Punjab Assembly has the legal authority to issue such instructions, making the action unconstitutional and without lawful basis.

The petitioner has requested the Lahore High Court to declare the establishment of the Punjab Assembly’s Judicial Committee unconstitutional and illegal, and to strike it down accordingly.
