‘Justice won’t come from courts,’ says Aleema

Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has strongly criticised the country’s judicial system and urged people to take to the streets to demand what she described as their rights and justice.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad on Wednesday, Aleema alleged that Justice Baqar Najafi had previously allowed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to travel to London on the basis of a Rs50 stamp paper. She questioned the judge’s current position regarding medical treatment for Imran Khan.

“Justice Baqar Najafi is the same judge who sent Nawaz Sharif to London on a Rs50 stamp paper, and today that very judge is telling Imran Khan to seek treatment at a government hospital,” she said.

Aleema argued that the contrasting decisions reflected what she described as a double standard within the justice system. She said the situation had exposed the state of justice in the country and raised serious questions about equal treatment under the law.

Criticising the broader judicial structure, she also referred to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and claimed that the judiciary had become unable to provide justice in accordance with the Constitution and law.

She alleged that the existing system would not provide justice to Imran Khan and said people could no longer expect relief from the institutions where justice was supposed to be delivered.

Aleema further called on the public to come out of their homes and raise their voices for Imran Khan’s release and what she described as the protection of the Constitution.

“If the nation truly wants justice for itself and future generations, it will now have to seek it on the streets,” she said.

She urged citizens to participate in what she described as a struggle against injustice, arguing that protecting the rights and future of coming generations required public mobilisation.

Her remarks came amid continued political and legal controversy surrounding Imran Khan and PTI, with the party and his family repeatedly raising concerns about his legal cases and access to appropriate medical treatment.

The claims made by Aleema Khan regarding the judges and past judicial decisions were part of her criticism of the legal system and were not independently established in the statement.
