Karachi set to get Fatimiyah International University

The Sindh Assembly has unanimously approved a bill seeking to establish Fatimiyah International University in Karachi, paving the way for the proposed institution to be set up under provincial law.

The “Fatimiyah International University at Karachi Bill 2026” was introduced during the Sindh Assembly session held on September 11 and was passed unanimously by the house.

According to the assembly record, the legislation has been registered as Bill No. 23 of 2026. It will become law after receiving assent from the Governor of Sindh, completing the legal process required for the establishment of the university.

Efforts to establish Fatimiyah International University have been underway for several years. As part of these efforts, the KPSIAJ established the Fatimiyah Higher Education System in October 2022, which served as a foundation for the proposed university.

The institution subsequently launched a range of higher education and professional training programmes to develop the academic framework required for the university.

Under the Fatimiyah Higher Education System, programmes are being offered in several disciplines, including education, psychology, commerce and nursing. These include a Bachelor of Education, Associate Degree in Education, Associate Degree in Commerce, BS Psychology and nursing-related programmes.

The institution’s educational approach focuses not only on academic development but also on ethical training, social responsibility and leadership skills. Its stated aim is to provide students with both academic knowledge and broader personal and professional development.

A major step towards establishing the university was taken in June 2026, when the Sindh Cabinet approved the proposed charter of Fatimiyah International University.

Following the cabinet’s approval, the proposed legislation was presented before the Sindh Assembly for consideration. The unanimous passage of the bill provides a legal framework for the university’s administrative structure, higher education activities and the eventual launch of degree programmes.

The bill will now be sent to the Governor of Sindh for assent. Once approved, the formal legal process for establishing the university will be completed.

The establishment of Fatimiyah International University is being viewed as a significant addition to Karachi’s higher education sector, particularly because its academic and institutional groundwork has already been developed through the Fatimiyah Higher Education System.
