A milk trader was allegedly robbed of Rs24 million and a mobile phone by armed suspects in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town, with CCTV footage of the incident emerging.

KARACHI: A milk trader was allegedly robbed of Rs24 million and a mobile phone by armed suspects in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town, with CCTV footage of the incident emerging.

According to reports, the robbery took place in Sector 17-A of Shah Latif Town where two unidentified men riding a motorcycle allegedly intercepted the milk trader’s vehicle.

CCTV footage reportedly shows the suspects stopping the vehicle at gunpoint. One of the suspects, who was riding on the back of the motorcycle, can be seen approaching the vehicle and allegedly taking cash from the trader before fleeing with his accomplice.

According to the victim, the armed men escaped after taking Rs24 million in cash and his mobile phone. The incident was subsequently reported to Shah Latif Town police.

Speaking about the incident Shah Latif Town Station House Officer (SHO) Ghulam Nabi Afridi confirmed that police had received information about the robbery. However, he said that a formal case had not been registered immediately.

The SHO said the affected trader had been called to the police station to record his statement. A case will be registered after his statement is recorded and the details of the incident are verified.

Police are also making efforts to identify and arrest the suspects involved in the robbery. Investigators are expected to examine the CCTV footage and other available evidence as part of the investigation.

The incident has once again raised concerns about street crime and the security of traders carrying large amounts of cash in Karachi.

Police officials said efforts were underway to trace the suspects and assured that those involved in the robbery would be arrested.
