According to initial reports the teenage motorcycle rider was travelling in the Steel Town area when the trailer collided with him near Quaid-e-Azam Park. The impact left the young rider critically injured and he died as a result of the accident.

Edhi volunteers reached the scene and shifted the victim’s body to a nearby hospital for the necessary legal procedures. He was later identified as 12-year-old Umar Gul. Following the initial formalities his body was transferred to Jinnah Hospital for further medico-legal procedures.

Police officials also reached the site shortly after the accident and took the 18-wheeler trailer into custody. The vehicle was subsequently moved to the police station as investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

Initial information suggests that the driver allegedly fled the scene after the accident. Police are continuing their investigation to determine how the collision occurred and to establish responsibility for the death.

The latest incident has renewed concerns about the growing number of fatal road accidents involving heavy vehicles in Karachi. Residents and road users have repeatedly raised concerns about the risks created by trailers, trucks and other heavy vehicles operating on busy roads particularly in areas where motorcycles and other smaller vehicles share the road.
