Security official faces action after SUSIT clash

A security official has been taken into custody and is facing disciplinary proceedings under military law following a reported confrontation at Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology (SUSIT) in Islamabad, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

The incident occurred at the university’s Chattha Bakhtawar campus, where students were protesting over the removal of a senior university official and raising concerns about other administrative matters.

Videos circulating on social media show a uniformed man approaching a group of students during the protest. A woman, believed to be a university official, can also be seen accompanying him.

According to the footage, the man appears to strike one of the protesters with a stick before a heated exchange develops between him and the students. The confrontation soon turns physical, with several protesters surrounding and allegedly assaulting the uniformed official.

The situation escalates when the man pulls out a pistol and points it toward the crowd. The woman accompanying him appears to intervene and attempts to calm the situation.

The official then raises the weapon and fires a shot into the air. Police officers subsequently arrive at the scene and surround him before escorting him away from the university premises.

In another video recorded after the incident, a senior Islamabad police officer is seen speaking to students. The officer assures them that the matter will be dealt with firmly and that action would be taken through the relevant military disciplinary mechanism.

Sources said the Pakistan Army places strong emphasis on maintaining discipline and ensuring accountability. They added that further action would depend on the findings of the inquiry into the incident.

The incident has sparked discussion on social media, with questions being raised about the circumstances that led to the confrontation and the use of a firearm during the protest.
