Keep ants out of sugar

Sugar is used in almost every home but leaving the sugar container open can quickly attract ants.  Many people think they have to throw the sugar away once ants get into it.

However a few simple home methods can help remove ants and keep them away.

Use Sunlight

If ants get into your sugar spread the sugar on a clean tray and place it in direct sunlight for some time.  The heat can encourage the ants to move away. Once the ants are gone store the sugar in a clean dry and tightly closed container.

Try bay leaves

Bay leaves can also help keep ants away. Place a few dry bay leaves inside or near the sugar container.  Their strong smell may help discourage ants from coming close.

Add cloves

Cloves have a strong smell that ants may avoid. Putting a few cloves near the sugar container can help keep ants away from the area.

Use dry red chillies

A few whole dried red chillies can be placed near the sugar container or in the kitchen cabinet where sugar is stored.  Their strong smell may help discourage ants.

Keep lemon nearby

Lemon can also be used as a simple home remedy. Place a few lemon pieces near the sugar container.  The strong citrus smell may help keep ants away.

Keep sugar properly stored

These simple methods may help reduce the problem of ants in the kitchen. Most importantly keep sugar in a clean dry and tightly sealed container. Cleaning up spilled sugar and keeping the storage area dry can also help prevent ants from returning.
