Woman turns gossip into income

People are often told not to interfere in other people’s affairs but a 67 year old woman in Colombia has reportedly turned her habit of keeping an eye on the neighborhood into a source of income.

Known as Maryam the woman reportedly sits outside her home early in the morning with a notebook.  She watches what is happening around the neighborhood and writes down information she finds interesting.

Who is going where who talked to whom and what new issues are being discussed in the area Maryam keeps track of it all.

She then reportedly shares these local updates with people who are interested making it a way to earn money.

In interviews Maryam claimed that years of saving money staying informed about local events and knowing what was happening around her helped her financially.  She said her earnings and savings eventually allowed her to buy two houses.

Her unusual work has sometimes caused arguments with neighbors but she says no legal action has been taken against her so far.

For most people neighborhood gossip is simply a way to pass the time. But Maryam has reportedly turned local news and curiosity into a money making activity.
