Keep rats and cockroaches away

Once rats or cockroaches enter a home, getting rid of them can be difficult. They often hide in kitchen cabinets under the sink and in dark corners where they are hard to find.

Many sprays and pest control products are available in stores but some people also try simple home remedies.  One popular method uses cucumber baking soda flour and sugar.

How to make the mixture

Take half a cup each of baking soda, flour and powdered sugar. Mix them well until they are evenly combined.

Now cut one cucumber into thick pieces and sprinkle a small amount of the mixture over them.  Place the cucumber pieces in areas where rats or cockroaches are often seen.

However this remedy is not a scientifically proven or guaranteed way to remove rats or cockroaches.  Its effectiveness may vary, so it should not be your only solution.

Keep your home pest free

To reduce the chances of pests returning, keep food crumbs off the floor store garbage in covered bins fix water leaks and seal cracks or holes around doors and walls.

If there is a serious infestation professional pest control is usually a more effective option. If you have children or pets at home keep any powder or mixture completely out of their reach.
