The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to review annual development projects approved during the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, initiating a detailed scrutiny of schemes included in the provincial development programme.
According to official sources, the review process has begun for development schemes approved during the previous PTI-led government in the province. A total of 1,224 new development schemes were included in the annual development programme during that period, with their combined estimated cost reaching Rs1,348 billion.
The provincial government had allocated Rs107 billion for these schemes in the budget for the current fiscal year. However, authorities are now examining their status, progress and approval process to determine whether they should continue.
Official sources said the government has decided to scrap schemes that have not yet received approval from the relevant forums. The review also covers development projects proposed in the constituencies of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Provincial Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Shumail Haroon Bilour, while speaking to Geo News, said the government was reviewing all development schemes and would not accept any political influence during the scrutiny process.
She said some projects would undergo revisions, while others would be retained in their existing form. She added that decisions would be taken on a case-by-case basis and strictly on merit.
The review is aimed at assessing the development schemes approved during the previous government and determining which projects should be continued, revised or cancelled based on their approval status and merit.
