Lahore – Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan has shared encouraging news for citizens regarding the launch of an electric tram service in Lahore.
During a media interaction, a journalist asked the minister about the previously announced train service expected in January that did not materialize and whether there is hope for it in the upcoming financial year.
In response, the Punjab Transport Minister said that the contract process for the electric tram has been completed while the procurement phase is currently underway. He added that the electric tram will be seen operating on the city’s roads in the new financial year.
He further stated that a metro system had initially been planned for the project but has now been postponed. He also assured that no trees will be cut down for the construction of the new transport system.
Regarding the route, Bilal Akbar Khan said that the proposed electric tram route will run from CBD to Jail Road and from Mall Road to Istanbul Chowk.
