The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court has forwarded 11 names to the Judicial Commission for the appointment of judges to fill 10 vacant positions in the high court, according to court sources. The commission had requested the list of nominations by July 4, and the chief justice has complied with the deadline, initiating the process to address the vacancies that have been affecting the court’s functioning.

The roster, approved by the Chief Justice, was released by the Additional Registrar Judicial. According to the schedule, which takes effect from July 6, six division benches will hear appeals at the principal seat of the Lahore High Court, while 23 judges will sit as single benches to hear cases.
A two-member bench headed by the Chief Justice will hear all types of appeals, while a bench led by Justice Shahbaz Rizvi will take up criminal appeals. Justice Faisal Zaman will lead a bench for civil appeals, and Justice Ahmed Nadeem Arshad will head another bench for civil appeals. Additionally, Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem will preside over a bench for criminal appeals, and Justice Malik Owais Khalid will lead a bench for civil appeals. The summer vacation roster ensures the continued hearing of cases during the holiday period, maintaining the court’s operations and addressing the backlog of pending cases.
The appointments and the summer roster reflect the high court’s efforts to ensure judicial continuity and efficiency despite the vacancies and the seasonal break. The Judicial Commission will now review the names forwarded by the Chief Justice and make the final decisions on the appointments, which are expected to strengthen the court’s bench and reduce the burden on existing judges. As the legal community awaits the commission’s decision, the summer roster ensures that justice will not be delayed during the vacation period.
