In an important step toward improving road safety and strengthening traffic law enforcement, the City Traffic Police Lahore has initiated a comprehensive crackdown on vehicles with unpaid e-challans. The campaign is being carried out under a newly introduced zero-tolerance policy aimed at promoting traffic discipline and ensuring compliance with road regulations across the city.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, has directed traffic officials to take strict and impartial action against all motorists who have failed to clear their outstanding traffic fines. According to the CTO, no exceptions will be made, and every violator will be dealt with according to the law.
The traffic police have urged citizens to settle their pending e-challans without delay. Authorities have warned that individuals who ignore these notices may face restrictions when accessing various government services. The initiative is designed not only to recover unpaid fines but also to encourage responsible driving behavior among road users.
To ensure effective implementation, dedicated enforcement teams have been deployed on several major roads and busy traffic corridors throughout Lahore. These include Mall Road, Jail Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Ferozepur Road, and Wahdat Road. During routine checks, any vehicle identified with outstanding e-challans will be stopped, and the owner will be required to clear all pending dues before being permitted to continue their journey.
In a significant development, compliance with e-challan payments has now been linked to 14 important police and public facilitation services. Individuals with unpaid traffic fines may face difficulties in obtaining or renewing driving licenses, acquiring character certificates, accessing verification services, and availing themselves of several other government-related facilities. This measure is intended to ensure greater accountability and improve adherence to traffic regulations.
CTO Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi highlighted that the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, Police Khidmat Markaz, and the Driving License Management System have been digitally integrated to support this initiative. This coordination between various departments is expected to strengthen enforcement mechanisms, streamline data sharing, and improve the overall effectiveness of traffic management.
The CTO further explained that e-challans are being issued regularly for a wide range of traffic violations. These include running red lights, crossing lane markings, driving on the wrong side of the road, violating one-way traffic restrictions, and committing environmental offences related to vehicle emissions. Modern surveillance technology and digital monitoring systems are being used to identify violators and ensure that traffic laws are enforced consistently.
Authorities are also taking strict action against motorists who attempt to evade detection by tampering with vehicle registration plates. This includes the use of tinted number plate covers, black stickers, concealed registration numbers, or any other method intended to obstruct identification. Such practices are considered serious violations and will attract legal action.
Appealing to the public for cooperation, CTO Shirazi emphasized that maintaining traffic discipline is a collective responsibility. He stated that adherence to traffic laws is essential for creating safer roads, reducing accidents, and ensuring a smooth flow of traffic. He also noted that the increasing use of technology and digital enforcement systems has significantly enhanced the ability of authorities to identify offenders, making it increasingly difficult for violators to avoid accountability.
The Lahore Traffic Police remain committed to creating a safer and more organized road network, urging all citizens to follow traffic regulations and clear any pending e-challans at the earliest opportunity.
