The Lahore district administration has sealed a private water park after a nine-year-old girl lost her life in a tragic accident involving the facility’s drainage system. Police have arrested three officials of the park, while authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine whether negligence led to the child’s death.
The incident occurred at a private water park in Lahore’s Batapur area, where the girl had gone with her family to spend the day. According to the initial investigation, the swimming pool was being drained while visitors, including children, were still inside the water. Officials believe the powerful suction created by the drainage pump pulled the child toward an uncovered drainage pipe, trapping her inside.
Witnesses immediately raised the alarm after the girl disappeared underwater. Rescue teams and park staff began a frantic search. Emergency workers searched the pool and surrounding area before locating the child inside the drainage pipe nearly 40 to 50 minutes later. She was pulled out and rushed for medical assistance, but doctors could not save her life.
Soon after the incident, the district administration ordered the immediate closure of the water park. Officials said the facility would remain sealed until the investigation is completed. Authorities also claimed that the park was allegedly operating without fulfilling essential safety and fitness requirements required for such recreational facilities.
The victim’s mother later filed a police complaint, accusing the park management of criminal negligence. She alleged that the tragedy could have been avoided if proper safety measures had been in place. Based on her complaint, police registered a criminal case and named the park manager, the security supervisor and the CCTV supervisor as suspects.
Police confirmed that all three officials have been arrested and are being questioned. Investigators are examining whether the management violated safety protocols by starting the pool-draining process while people were still swimming. They are also investigating why the drainage opening was reportedly left without a protective safety cover, exposing swimmers to serious danger.
Senior police officials said a comprehensive inquiry is underway to establish the exact sequence of events. The investigation will determine whether negligence, poor maintenance or failure to follow safety procedures contributed to the fatal accident. Authorities have promised strict legal action against anyone found responsible.
