Liaquatpur couple found dead in suspected honour killing

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Police have launched an investigation after the bodies of a young man and a woman were recovered from separate locations in Liaquatpur tehsil, in an incident suspected to be linked to an alleged honour killing.

According to police sources, the couple had reportedly contracted a love marriage a few days before their deaths. The woman was said to be 18 years old.

The bodies were recovered near the Khanbela and Shedani Sharif areas. One was found in a sugarcane field, while the other was recovered from inside a house.

Police were alerted after local residents reportedly informed authorities that the woman’s family was allegedly attempting to bury her body secretly. Officers reached the scene and shifted both bodies to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Liaquatpur for post-mortem examinations.

Police Suspect Honour Killing

The station house officer (SHO) of Liaquatpur said preliminary observations revealed marks of torture on the woman’s body, raising suspicions of an honour killing.

The officer said the suspects had fled and police were conducting raids to arrest those involved.

A case has been registered against family members, while investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding both deaths. Police suspect the man was killed before his body was dumped in the sugarcane field, while the woman was allegedly killed inside the house.

The allegations have yet to be established through the investigation, and the post-mortem findings are expected to help determine the cause of death.

Another Murder Case Raises Concern

The incident comes days after the body of six-year-old Nazia was recovered from a sugarcane field within the same Shedani Sharif police jurisdiction. The child was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered.

Rahim Yar Khan District Police Officer Irfan Ali Samo had taken notice of that case and directed police to ensure the immediate arrest of the suspects.

The latest deaths have raised further concerns about violent crime in the Liaquatpur area. Police said investigations into the cases were ongoing, with efforts underway to identify and arrest those responsible.

Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in the couple’s case.
