GUJRANWALA: In a major crackdown against illegal migration and human smuggling, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Gujranwala Zone has secured convictions against dozens of Pakistanis deported from Libya, while hundreds of other cases remain under trial.

According to FIA Gujranwala Zone Director Muhammad Bin Ashraf, a total of 90 Pakistani nationals who were deported from Libya through two special repatriation flights during the past month were taken into custody upon their arrival in Pakistan.
He said 64 of the deportees have already been convicted by courts through summary trials. The courts awarded them 10 to 15 days’ imprisonment along with fines ranging from Rs25,000 to Rs50,000 per convict.

The total amount of fines imposed on the convicted deportees stands at Rs1.048 million, while summary trial proceedings against the remaining accused are still underway, the FIA director added.
Muhammad Bin Ashraf further said that the names of the deported individuals are also being placed on the Passport Control List (PCL) in accordance with legal procedures to prevent further violations of immigration laws.
Highlighting the FIA’s overall performance, he said the Gujranwala Zone secured convictions against 172 accused in various cases between January 1 and July 8, 2026.
The convictions include offences related to human smuggling, illegal immigration, document fraud and other FIA-related crimes. Courts awarded sentences of up to 22 years’ imprisonment in different cases and imposed cumulative fines amounting to Rs13.729 million, according to the director.
Muhammad Bin Ashraf said the FIA would continue its campaign against human smugglers, document forgers and individuals attempting illegal migration, warning that strict legal action would be taken against all those involved in such offences.
He urged citizens to avoid illegal routes for overseas employment and to rely only on lawful immigration channels to protect themselves from exploitation by human trafficking networks.
