Lockie Ferguson ruled out as New Zealand face injury

New Zealand have suffered another setback in their T20I series against India, with fast bowler Lockie Ferguson ruled out of the remaining matches due to a calf injury.

Ferguson experienced discomfort in his right calf during the second T20I in Christchurch. Medical scans later confirmed a minor tear, which is expected to sideline him for around another week. Matthew Fisher has been named as his replacement for the remainder of the series.

Meanwhile, fast bowlers Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson will also miss the remaining T20Is as part of their workload management plans. Both are expected to return for New Zealand’s five-match ODI series against India, beginning on November 4 in Auckland.

Henry sustained a minor tear in his right quadriceps during the second T20I and is expected to need one to two weeks to recover. Despite the setback, the team remains hopeful that he will be available for the ODIs.

New Zealand head coach Rob Walter expressed disappointment over the injuries but remained optimistic about the players’ return for the upcoming 50-over series.

New Zealand have already lost the five-match T20I series after India won the opening three games. The fourth match will take place in Auckland on October 30, with the final T20I scheduled for November 1 in Hamilton.
