Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) associations have announced a nationwide strike from November 16, warning that the supply and sale of LPG will be suspended across the country in protest against the government’s proposed new pricing formula.
Senior Vice Chairman of the LPG Markets Association Ali Haider rejected the government’s revised mechanism for determining LPG prices and announced that dealers would stop selling the fuel from November 16.
According to Ali Haider, representatives of all LPG associations held an emergency meeting to discuss the government’s proposed pricing mechanism. The participants unanimously decided to oppose the new formula and suspend sales in protest.
He warned that the proposed pricing formula could increase LPG prices by 25 to 30 per cent, placing an additional financial burden on consumers already struggling with rising living costs.
The associations believe the revised mechanism could significantly affect the LPG market and make the fuel more expensive for households and businesses that depend on it.
Ali Haider said the decision to launch a nationwide strike was taken after consultations among the associations, adding that LPG sales would remain suspended from the announced date.
The planned shutdown could disrupt LPG supplies across the country, particularly for households and commercial consumers that rely on the fuel for their daily needs.
