Malaysian PM rejects Pahalgam allegations against Pakistan

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has rejected attempts to link Pakistan with terrorism, saying he had not received any evidence from Malaysian security agencies implicating the Pakistani state in the 2025 Pahalgam attack.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, Anwar was asked about Israel’s actions in Gaza and whether they amounted to state terrorism. He responded that Israel’s actions constituted state terrorism.

The interviewer then raised the Pahalgam attack and sought to establish a connection between Pakistan and the incident. Anwar, however, said Malaysia’s security agencies had not provided him with information indicating any involvement by the Pakistani state in terrorism.

The Malaysian premier also said he had not been presented with evidence linking Pakistan to the attack, effectively dismissing the suggestion that Islamabad was responsible.

The attack in Pahalgam, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, took place on April 22, 2025, killing 26 people. India subsequently accused Pakistan of involvement, a claim Islamabad strongly rejected and called for a neutral investigation into the incident.

Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours escalated further when India carried out military strikes against Pakistan on May 6 and 7, prompting Pakistan to respond militarily.

During the ensuing 87-hour confrontation, Pakistan said it had shot down several Indian aircraft, including Rafale fighter jets, as well as numerous drones.

Anwar’s remarks come amid continued efforts by Indian media outlets and officials to associate Pakistan with the Pahalgam attack, despite Islamabad’s repeated calls for credible and impartial evidence.
