LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif arrived in China on Tuesday for a four-day official visit, where she held talks with Communist Party of China (CPC) Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional Committee Secretary Chen Xiaojiang on expanding cooperation across key sectors.
The discussions focused particularly on agriculture, irrigation, livestock and agricultural mechanisation, with both sides expressing interest in adopting modern technologies and Chinese expertise to improve productivity and resource management in Punjab.
During the meeting, Pakistan and China agreed to explore the use of advanced aerial vehicles, water-levelling technologies and digital crop monitoring systems to modernise farming practices and improve agricultural efficiency.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in irrigation, including water-efficient systems, as well as mechanisation and livestock development.
Maryam Nawaz offered Punjab’s cooperation in advancing agricultural mechanisation, improving water management and developing the livestock sector. Both sides also agreed to explore the use of tested Chinese seeds to increase crop yields and agricultural productivity.
