Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set a firm deadline of March 2027 for the completion of the Gujranwala Yellow Line Mass Transit Project. She directed officials to ensure that the project is completed within the given timeframe.

Maryam Nawaz chaired a meeting to review progress on the Gujranwala Yellow Line and Faisalabad Mass Transit projects. During the meeting, officials briefed her on the current status of both schemes and the work completed so far.

The chief minister directed the departments concerned to speed up construction work. She ordered that work be carried out in three shifts to ensure faster progress. She made it clear that the deadlines of the projects should not be extended under any circumstances.

Maryam Nawaz said citizens were already facing difficulties because of the ongoing construction work. She said the government understood the problems being faced by residents. She stressed that the projects must be completed as soon as possible to reduce public inconvenience.

According to the briefing, the Gujranwala Yellow Line will cover 31.5 kilometres. The project will have 25 stations. Two of these stations will be underground. The scheme will also include 12 underpasses and 35 kilometres of service roads.

Signal-free U-turns will also be constructed as part of the project. Officials said around one-third of the overall work on the Gujranwala Yellow Line had already been completed.

The meeting was informed that 1,233 electricity poles and 552 transformers had been relocated during the construction process. Several utility networks are also being shifted to facilitate work on the project.

The project includes 15,000 feet of sewerage lines. It will also have 12,000 feet of water supply lines and 11,000 feet of gas pipelines. These infrastructure works are considered an important part of the overall mass transit development.

Officials further briefed the meeting about the drainage system being developed for the Gujranwala mass transit project. The drainage network will cover 62 kilometres. Around 40 per cent of the work has already been completed.

The meeting was also informed that around 5,000 trees had been replanted during the development of the Gujranwala and Faisalabad mass transit projects. Maryam Nawaz directed officials to ensure the protection of trees during construction and development activities.

The chief minister said environmental protection should remain an important part of development projects. She expressed her commitment to safeguarding trees and ensuring proper plantation wherever required.

Maryam Nawaz reiterated that the government was focused on providing better transport facilities to citizens. She said the timely completion of the mass transit projects would help improve urban mobility and reduce transportation difficulties.
