A global research organisation, Ipsos, has praised the public relief efforts introduced under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz, especially the Sahulat Bazaar initiative during Ramazan.
According to an Ipsos report, the Ramazan and Sahulat Bazaars in Punjab provided major economic relief to millions of people. The report described the initiative as an important step to support the public during a time of high prices.
The findings show that more than 46 million people visited Ramazan Bazaars during the holy month. Out of these, around 33.8 million people went to Sahulat Bazaars, while 5.2 million benefited from mobile “Sahulat on-the-go” units. Another 1.6 million people visited specifically for shopping.
The report also highlighted that these bazaars are not limited to Ramazan. Every year, around 189 million people visit Sahulat Bazaars across Punjab, showing their growing importance in daily life.
One of the key points in the report is the price difference. Goods were sold at up to 40 per cent lower rates compared to the open market. Even when compared to officially notified DC rates, prices were about 18 per cent lower. This helped people save a significant amount of money.
Ipsos estimated that citizens received relief worth Rs1.10 billion compared to open market prices, and Rs730 million compared to DC rates.
The report praised the Punjab Sahulat Bazaar Authority, calling it a unique and people-friendly institution. It said the model not only provided direct financial relief but also created job opportunities for thousands of people during Ramazan.
According to Ipsos, the system showed strong transparency, better organisation, and smooth operations. It also noted that the model has changed the traditional concept of relief into something more modern, practical, and sustainable.
Reacting to the report, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed gratitude and said that public service and welfare remain her government’s top priority.
Ipsos, which is based in Paris, is considered a trusted global organisation for research and public opinion. It operates in more than 90 countries and is known for its independent analysis.
The report adds weight to the Punjab government’s claims that the Sahulat Bazaar model is helping ordinary people manage rising costs, especially during important times like Ramazan.
