Massive fire erupts at Landhi garment factory, 3 hospitalised

KARACHI: A major fire broke out at a garment factory in the Landhi Export Processing Zone (EPZ), leaving three people in critical condition after they inhaled smoke.

Rescue officials said thick smoke filled parts of the factory during the blaze, causing three individuals to fall unconscious or suffer breathing difficulties. Rescue teams safely evacuated everyone from the building as firefighters worked to contain the flames.

According to rescue authorities, 16 fire tenders, a water bowser and a snorkel are taking part in the firefighting operation. Officials classified the blaze as a third-degree fire, indicating its intensity and the challenges faced by emergency teams.

The intense heat and flames also weakened the factory building, raising concerns about its structural stability. Emergency personnel continued efforts to extinguish the fire while taking precautions to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of workers and rescuers.

Sindh Rangers personnel also joined the rescue operation after reaching the site shortly after the incident. A Rangers spokesperson said the troops were assisting fire brigade and rescue teams in dealing with the emergency.

The spokesperson said protecting human lives and preventing the fire from spreading remained the Rangers’ top priorities. Rangers personnel continued to support the emergency response and evacuation efforts at the site.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the fire and sought details about the incident and the ongoing rescue operation. Authorities are expected to determine the cause of the fire after completing the emergency response and assessing the affected premises.
