Medical report confirms evidence suggestive of sexual assault in Peshawar case

PESHAWAR: The Department of Forensic Medicine at Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, has submitted its medical examination report to police in connection with the alleged gang assault case reported in Garhi Moosa Khan.

According to the medical report dated September 9, 2026, forensic findings were suggestive of recent sexual assault involving a female complainant who reported the incident on September 6 at around 2am in Mosam Khan Gauhr, Peshawar. The report also records physical injuries and laboratory findings, which have been incorporated into the ongoing police investigation.

The report, signed by Dr Sobia Tul Muntaha, Women Medical Officer, states that the victim reported the alleged involvement of three assailants. Her medical history indicated no previous similar incident, while a cholecystectomy performed seven to eight months earlier was also noted.

Laboratory examination included a serology analysis report, numbered 26225-S and dated September 9, which recorded “positive for human spermatozoa on tested items.” Another laboratory finding showed an S. Beta HCG level of 22, against a stated normal value of below 10.

The medical examination also documented signs of physical violence. According to the final opinion on injuries, a bruise measuring approximately 3×4 centimetres was found on the victim’s right forearm, located around three centimetres above the right wrist joint and 10 centimetres below the right elbow joint.

The report further noted that the left-sided edge or border of the victim’s qameez was abraded. Based on the forensic findings, the final opinion stated that the serology analysis was suggestive of recent sexual assault.

Police sources said the medical report has been made part of the case file and will be considered alongside other evidence being collected during the investigation. Officials have not yet publicly released a detailed FIR summary or disclosed the identities of any suspects.

A senior police official in Peshawar, speaking on condition of anonymity, said investigators were following due process and collecting additional evidence. The official added that action would be taken against anyone found involved in the incident on the basis of evidence.

The case has also highlighted concerns surrounding the investigation and prosecution of sexual violence cases, including the need for timely forensic examination, proper preservation of evidence and protection of survivors.

Under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code, rape is a serious criminal offence carrying severe penalties. The Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act, 2021, also provides a specialised legal framework for investigation and trial of sexual violence cases, including measures relating to victim protection, legal assistance and expedited proceedings.

Legal and rights advocates have repeatedly stressed that survivors should be provided immediate medical care, legal assistance and protection from intimidation or social pressure. They have also called for stronger forensic capacity, trained investigators and timely prosecution to improve the chances of securing justice.

The identity of the victim has been withheld in accordance with journalistic ethics and established standards for reporting sexual violence. Allegations against any individual remain subject to due legal process and determination by a competent court.

The investigation into the Garhi Moosa Khan case remains ongoing.
