Indian women’s team refuses Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi

India’s women’s cricket team has reportedly refused to receive the T20 Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, following their victory over defending champions Sri Lanka in the final.

According to sources, the Indian women’s team followed the footsteps of the country’s men’s team and declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister. The decision has once again sparked controversy over the involvement of politics in cricket.

The Indian women’s team defeated Sri Lanka in the final to claim the Asia Cup title. However, the trophy presentation became the centre of attention after the Indian players reportedly decided not to collect the trophy from the ACC president.

ACC sources said the trophy presentation protocol had already been finalised and that the Indian team itself decided not to receive the trophy. The sources added that India’s previous trophy is also available and is only awaiting collection.

The sources further said there had been no change in their position regarding the matter. They maintained that Mohsin Naqvi had not moved even an inch from his earlier stance and remained firm on his position.

The development comes after a similar trophy-related controversy involving the Indian men’s cricket team, which had also refused to receive the trophy from Naqvi.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka women’s captain Chamari Athapaththu received the runners-up award from Mohsin Naqvi after her team finished second in the tournament.

With the runners-up award presented to the Sri Lankan captain, the prize-giving ceremony of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final concluded.
