Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are facing another setback as new polling suggests their popularity among Britons has declined following their reported return to the United Kingdom in August.
According to a recent YouGov survey, public opinion of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remains largely unfavourable. The findings indicate that their return to Britain has done little to improve their public image.
The survey found that only 29 percent of Britons view Prince Harry positively, marking a four-point decline since July. Meanwhile, 60 percent expressed an unfavourable opinion of the Duke.
Meghan’s figures were even lower. Just 20 percent of respondents viewed the Duchess positively, while 68 percent held a negative opinion of her. Her net favourability rating reportedly dropped to minus 48, the lowest recorded by the polling tracker.
The latest figures come amid renewed attention surrounding Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle. Authorities in the Philippines have reportedly launched an investigation following allegations involving the possession of child sexual abuse material.
Philippine Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Ty confirmed that the country’s anti-trafficking and online child exploitation task force in Cebu was investigating the matter.
Meghan has also addressed the allegations, stating that she became aware of concerns involving her father in 2018. She said she had kept him away from her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to protect their well-being.
The combination of declining public approval and renewed scrutiny surrounding her family has placed Meghan and Harry under further media attention. However, the long-term impact of these developments on their standing in Britain remains uncertain.
