Meghan Markle plans California trip to reunite with friends over holidays

Meghan Markle is planning to return to California over the holidays to see friends and family after moving back to Britain with Prince Harry and their two children in August, according to a report published by People magazine.

An unnamed source told the magazine on Thursday that the Duchess of Sussex had remained in close contact with friends in Montecito, California, despite the family’s move to Britain.

“She’s keeping busy, as she always does, and staying in close contact with her friends in Montecito,” the source told People.

“She does miss home — and her mom. They’re planning to come back for the holidays. Meghan’s looking forward to seeing her friends and making plans with them already,” the source added.

The reported plans come as questions remain over whether Harry and Meghan will spend Christmas with the British royal family. An unnamed source told The Sunday Times that the couple considered a Christmas visit too awkward and difficult and did not expect to receive an invitation.

“They also know they’re not going to be invited, and they’re not waiting for an invitation,” the source said.

In September, a letter issued by the Lord Chamberlain on behalf of King Charles III reiterated that Harry and Meghan were no longer working members of the royal family, having stepped back from official duties in January 2020. The letter also made clear that any public engagements they undertake are in a private capacity.
