Awam Pakistan Party leader Miftah Ismail has criticised the Sindh government over the worsening condition of Karachi’s infrastructure, saying the city’s problems reflect years of poor governance and neglect.
Speaking at the Karachi Press Club, Ismail said Karachi had been ranked among the least liveable cities and blamed the provincial government for failing to improve basic facilities for citizens.
He said University Road had become an example of what he described as administrative failure, corruption, and lack of attention towards public infrastructure.
Ismail claimed that the Sindh government had completely failed to address Karachi’s growing challenges, including damaged roads and declining urban services.
He said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had been ruling Sindh for 18 years and could not avoid responsibility for the city’s current situation.
According to Ismail, Karachi’s deterioration was not caused by external factors, and the provincial government should be held accountable for the lack of development and poor management.
The Awam Pakistan leader also spoke about rising petroleum prices in the country. He said the high cost of petrol was not only linked to global oil prices but was largely due to heavy taxes imposed by the government.
He criticised the increase in fuel prices announced in February, calling it an inappropriate decision that placed additional pressure on the public.
Ismail further claimed that oil refineries were provided benefits worth Rs75 billion, adding that an inquiry into the matter had now been initiated.
