The government has increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD), adding to the fuel burden on consumers amid continued volatility in international oil markets.
Under a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been raised by Rs4.10 per litre, taking it to Rs384.34 per litre. The price of HSD has increased by Rs6.41 per litre and will now be sold at Rs415.83 per litre.
The revised prices will take effect from Wednesday, September 16. The government continues to collect Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol, while the levy and duties on diesel amount to Rs100 per litre.
Fuel prices have remained highly volatile in recent months due to geopolitical tensions and fluctuations in global oil markets. HSD had reached a record Rs520.35 per litre on April 3 after rising from Rs281 per litre following the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict on February 28.

The latest increase comes shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a fuel relief scheme for owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, three-wheelers and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
