Brad Pitt has reportedly faced another difficult development involving his children amid his long-running family tensions with ex-wife Angelina Jolie.
On Monday, September 14, reports emerged that the actor’s eldest son, Maddox, had removed “Pitt” from his surname, following similar decisions by two of his siblings.
Maddox, 25, will reportedly be known as Maddox Chivan Jolie instead of Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt.
The name change follows reports that Maddox had already begun using his mother’s surname publicly. In February, he reportedly introduced himself without his father’s surname at the premiere of Jolie’s film Couture.
Maddox worked as an assistant director on the drama, which stars Jolie as an American filmmaker who is diagnosed with breast cancer after arriving in France to make a video for Paris Fashion Week.

Another of Jolie and Pitt’s children, Zahara, has also publicly used her mother’s surname. She introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie during her college sorority ceremony in 2023.
The developments have unfolded against the backdrop of the former couple’s highly publicised and lengthy legal and family dispute.
A source previously told People that Pitt was deeply affected by his children’s decisions, alleging that they were the result of a “prolonged campaign of alienation” against him.
“It’s an incredibly sad reality, but it’s not surprising after years of one parent weaponising the children against the other one with no regard for the consequence,” the source claimed.
Jolie has not publicly accepted those allegations, and the claims should be viewed as the source’s characterisation of the family situation.

De Ramon and Wesley were married from 2019 until their separation in 2022 before finalising their divorce in 2024.
