The 29th meeting of the Syndicate of the University of Okara (UO) was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister for Higher Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, during which members approved a wide range of academic, administrative and financial initiatives aimed at strengthening the institution’s growth and academic excellence.
The meeting agenda was presented by the university Registrar, Jamil Asim. Among those in attendance were the Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Sajjad Mubin; Pro VC, Dr Muhammad Wajid; Additional Secretary (Universities) at the Higher Education Department, Zahida Azhar; former Federal Secretary, Mazhar Ali Khan, veteran journalist and analyst, Salman Ghani, and Members of the Punjab Assembly including Mian Muhammad Munir and Chaudhary Javed Allaudin.
At the outset of the meeting, Rana Sikandar Hayat, informed the participants that he had highlighted the remarkable progress and development of the UO during proceedings of the Punjab Assembly. He commended the university administration for its sustained efforts in academic and institutional advancement.
During the discussion, Mian Muhammad Munir appreciated the VC’s initiative of strengthening classroom monitoring through both personal oversight and dedicated committees, describing it as a positive step towards improving academic standards and teaching quality.
The Syndicate approved a number of faculty and administrative appointments, including Assistant Directors in the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), Assistant Professors and Lecturers in Library and Information Science, Commerce, Physiotherapy, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Computer Science, and Medical Laboratory Technology, as well as Associate Professors in Education and Assistant Professors in Physics.
The house also endorsed the recommendations of the Search Committee regarding the appointments of the Registrar and Controller of Examinations.
In another significant decision, the Syndicate approved the recommendations of the Finance and Planning Committee, including the university’s budget of Rs1.5 billion for the fiscal year 2026-27. The Minister appreciated the VC for achieving a substantial increase in the university endowment fund, describing it as an important milestone for the institution’s financial sustainability.
