Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has been picked by Kandahar Warriors for the upcoming Afghanistan Premier League (APL), securing a place in the tournament’s platinum category.
Amir was selected as the first pick in the platinum category during the APL player draft, which is currently taking place in Dubai. He will represent Kandahar Warriors in the competition and participate as a British player.
The left-arm fast bowler registered for the tournament using his British citizenship. His British nationality also means he does not require a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to participate in the league.
According to media reports, several Pakistani cricketers had registered for the Afghanistan Premier League draft. However, sources said the PCB had decided not to issue NOCs to Pakistani players seeking to participate in the tournament.
Amir’s selection is therefore a notable development, as his British citizenship allows him to take part despite the reported PCB decision regarding NOCs for Pakistani cricketers.
The Afghanistan Premier League is expected to feature international players, with franchises strengthening their squads through the ongoing draft in Dubai.
