Mourning procession begins in Karachi amid security measures

KARACHI: The first silent mourning procession in Karachi began from Nishtar Park on Saturday and will conclude at Hussainia Irania Imambargah in Kharadar after passing through its traditional routes.

A large number of mourners joined the procession, which forms part of the religious observances held in the city. Participants will continue their journey through designated areas before reaching Kharadar, where the procession will come to an end.

Authorities have put extensive security arrangements in place along the procession route. Police and Rangers personnel have taken positions at key locations to ensure security and maintain law and order throughout the event.

Law enforcement agencies are also monitoring the surrounding areas, while security officials remain deployed along major points of the route. The authorities have taken these measures to facilitate the smooth and peaceful conduct of the procession.

Several roads and streets along the route have been closed to regular traffic. The closures have affected traffic movement in parts of the city, particularly around the areas through which the procession will pass.

The Karachi Traffic Police has introduced alternative routes to minimise inconvenience for commuters and maintain the flow of traffic. Motorists have been advised to follow traffic diversions, cooperate with officials on duty and avoid unnecessary travel towards the affected areas.

Traffic police personnel are also present at important intersections to guide commuters and manage the increased pressure on alternative routes. Authorities have urged citizens to stay informed about road closures and use alternate routes while the procession remains underway.
