MQM-P uges responsible political rhetoric

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Thursday called on political leaders to exercise caution in their public remarks, saying irresponsible statements could damage Pakistan’s image and be exploited by countries hostile to the country.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, MQM-P Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said senior politicians should choose their words carefully and avoid giving Pakistan’s adversaries material to use against the country.

He questioned whether any responsible leader should make remarks that could become headlines in the media of countries unfriendly to Pakistan, adding that experienced politicians understand the impact of their public statements.

Siddiqui said political leaders should project a positive image of Pakistan whenever their comments receive international attention. He stressed that public statements should strengthen the country’s reputation instead of targeting the state or institutions responsible for its security.

Referring to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Siddiqui expressed hope that the veteran politician would clarify his recent remarks if he believed they had been interpreted in a way that benefited Pakistan’s opponents.

He also praised Pakistan’s armed forces, saying the military had played a key role in protecting both Pakistan and regional security during recent tensions. According to Siddiqui, political leaders now have the responsibility to safeguard the country’s political image while the armed forces continue to defend its borders.
