Muneeba named T20I captain for Sri Lanka

The Pakistan Women's National Selection Committee has announced the squads for the upcoming One-Day International

The Pakistan Women’s National Selection Committee has announced the squads for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Sri Lanka, with several new faces included as part of preparations for future international competitions.

The white-ball series will be played in Hambantota, Sri Lanka, from July 23 to August 4.

Fatima Sana will continue to captain Pakistan in the three-match ODI series, while Muneeba Ali Siddiqui has been appointed captain for the T20I series in Fatima’s absence due to her participation in The Hundred tournament in England after the ODI matches.

Fatima recently delivered an impressive performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, where she claimed 11 wickets in five matches and scored 85 runs, including a half-century. Her all-round performances earned her a place in the tournament’s Team of the Tournament, and she also became the first Pakistani woman cricketer selected to play in The Hundred.

The selectors have made significant changes to the T20I squad, introducing eight new players compared to the team that featured in the recent Women’s T20 World Cup.

The new additions include Eman Naseer, Humna Bilal, Maham Anees, Momina Riasat, Najiha Alvi, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Umm-e-Hani and Waheeda Akhtar.

Among them, Eman Naseer, Maham Anees and Momina Riasat are yet to make their T20I debuts and could earn their first international caps during the Sri Lanka series.

For the ODI squad, Maham Anees and Saira Jabeen have been included as uncapped players and could make their international debuts during the three-match series.

The ODI matches, which form part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29, are scheduled for July 23, 25 and 28.

Pakistan’s squad is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on July 20, with training sessions planned for July 21 and 22 before the start of the series.
