Muscat cable car nears opening

MUSCAT: A major cable car project being developed in the coastal area of Mutrah, Muscat has entered its final stages.

The Mutrah Cable Car also known as the Mutrah Teleferic is being developed as part of Oman’s efforts under Oman Vision 2040 to promote tourism and modernise the region.

According to Oman Media reports the project has successfully completed an important stage of international safety testing.  The safety certification documents will now be submitted to the relevant Omani authorities.

Final approvals needed

The project will require final approval from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority. It will then need approvals from the Royal Oman Police and Muscat Municipality before it can open to the public.

Officials have not yet announced a confirmed opening date. The service is expected to begin after all required approvals are completed.

Three Stations Completed

Construction of all three cable car stations has been completed.

They include

•Sultan Qaboos Port Station

•Mountain or Summit Station

•Hay Al ward station

•18 cable cars

The project will have 18 cable car cabins. Each standard cabin can carry up to eight passengers while VIP cabins can accommodate four people.

Two cabins have been reserved for VIP use.

The Mutrah Cable Car is expected to add a new attraction to Muscat’s tourism and entertainment sector. However its official opening date will be announced only after the final approvals are received.
