Details have emerged about the transfer of a suspect arrested in connection with the death of a 15-year-old orphan boy in Multan to the Crime Control Department (CCD) in Bahawalpur, raising questions about the circumstances and legal basis of the move.
The suspect, identified as Tauqeer Nazir, was transferred to the Bahawalpur CCD following developments involving senior department officials, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Sources said CCD officials discussed the case during a meeting held in Multan at night. During the meeting, the officials reportedly maintained that Nazir had no previous criminal record and that the case did not fall into the category of a high-profile crime.
However, the matter subsequently progressed following the reported intervention of a senior CCD official based in Lahore, the sources claimed.
Multan City Police Officer (CPO) Akhtar Farooq, meanwhile, said the case had been transferred on the request of the CCD.
The transfer has drawn attention to the department’s authority to take over criminal investigations and the procedures governing such decisions.
CCD District Officer Tahir Majeed said the department’s mandate covered 17 categories of serious offences. However, he explained that, under the existing standard operating procedures, the department was currently dealing with only six to seven categories of crimes.
Majeed added that the relevant ordinance empowered the department to transfer cases to its jurisdiction, providing a legal basis for taking over investigations that fall within its mandate.
The development follows the death of the 15-year-old orphan boy in Multan, a case that has attracted attention because of the circumstances surrounding the incident and the handling of the investigation.
Questions have emerged over who requested the suspect’s transfer, which legal provision was invoked and why the case was moved to the Bahawalpur CCD despite the reported initial position of local officials.
The precise circumstances behind the transfer remain subject to clarification by the relevant authorities.
