One dead, two injured in Karachi roof collapse

At least one person was killed and two others were injured after the roof of a shop collapsed near New Nazimabad Flyover on Manghopir Road in Karachi on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as a 43-year-old man. He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital following the incident, according to rescue officials.

Rescue 1122 Chief Operating Officer Dr Abid Shaikh said the roof collapsed while construction work was underway at the shop. Three people were initially pulled out from beneath the rubble and shifted to hospital for medical treatment.

Rescue teams feared that more people could be trapped under the debris. Search and rescue operations were launched to locate anyone still buried beneath the collapsed structure.

Edhi ambulances and volunteers also reached the site to assist with the rescue efforts.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed the authorities to speed up rescue operations. He also instructed officials to ensure the injured received the best possible medical treatment.

The chief minister sought a detailed report from the Sindh Building Control Authority to establish the cause of the collapse and determine whether negligence or violations of construction regulations contributed to the incident.
