Opposition parties PPP and PML-N extend invitation for collaboration amid political strife

Amidst the ongoing political turmoil, the opposition parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), reiterated their call for unity during a joint meeting.

Highlighting the detrimental impact of political vendettas on national peace, discussions emphasized the need for cooperation and dialogue to foster stability in the country.

As deliberations commenced on Asif Zardari’s address to the joint session in the upper house, the PPP and the opposition coalition extended a renewed invitation for collaboration. The certified copy of the President’s address was formally presented to the Senate, initiating debates on the motion of thanks.

Advocating for national unity, PPP representatives underscored the imperative of forging ahead towards stability. Senator Sherry Rehman emphasized the necessity for a shift in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) approach, asserting that progress cannot be achieved through divisive narratives and urging the opposition to demonstrate magnanimity.

Echoing similar sentiments, Senator Jam Saifullah Khan attributed the prevailing atmosphere of intolerance to the PTI’s policies and actions. In response, PTI Senator Ali Zafar highlighted the detrimental impact of political reprisals on national peace, emphasizing the urgent need for reconciliation. Senators from the PML-N echoed calls for dialogue, with Senator Irfan Siddiqui stressing the importance of resolving issues through peaceful means.

Addressing concerns of regional representation, Senator Ali Zafar lamented the lack of inclusivity in the Senate, citing political divisions and injustices against the PTI.

Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gilani adjourned the meeting till Monday, underscoring the significance of ongoing dialogue and cooperation in navigating the current political landscape.
