Pakistan marks Ashura with massive mourning processions, religious devotion

Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, was observed across Pakistan on Friday with solemn religious devotion as mourning processions of Shabiya Alam, Zuljinah, and Tazia were taken out in major cities to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his loyal companions in the Battle of Karbala.

In Lahore, the main Ashura procession began from Nisar Haveli at Mochi Gate and proceeded towards Karbala Gamay Shah amid strict security arrangements. Thousands of mourners, including men, women, and children, participated in the procession, while elegies and tributes to Imam Hussain (RA) echoed throughout the route.

Karachi’s principal Ashura procession commenced after the central mourning gathering at Nishtar Park. Similar processions and religious gatherings were held in Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gilgit, Skardu, Muzaffarabad, and several other cities.

To honor the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, who endured hunger and thirst before their martyrdom in Karbala, devotees and charitable organizations arranged Sabeels offering water and refreshments, along with Niyaz distributions for mourners and the public.

Authorities implemented comprehensive security measures nationwide to ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura, with law enforcement personnel deployed along procession routes and at major religious gatherings.
